Why Do Eyelash Extensions Vary So Much In Price?
Eyelash extensions are a popular service and because of that, you now have lots of lash artists to chose from. On your journey of finding the right artist, you’ll find that pricing can range anywhere from $50-$400 depending on where you’re located. For most people, its confusing to see such a wide range in price for what appears to be the same service. In today’s article, I’m going to explain why pricing varies so much from one artist to another. My hope is that it helps you to identify the things you should be on the lookout for and also helps you find the best artist to design your eyelash extensions.
The number one question I want answered when searching for an eyelash artist is:
HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN A “WORKING” LASH ARTIST?
There are 2 different types of artists. The first is the artist that rarely ever does lashes after becoming certified. This artist may offer other services like skincare and hair services that are their bread and butter while eyelash extensions are just another service on the menu that’s rarely done. Unfortunately, this is one of the most common artists I see in the industry today. The second is the artist that practices on a consistent basis on anyone they can get their hands on as soon as they become certified. This artist is passionate about lash extensions and they’re constantly fine tuning their technique to be at their best. While this artist is like finding a needle in a haystack, this is the kind of mentality you want to see in the artist designing your lash extensions.
I can brag and say I’ve been certified an eyelash artist since 2010. To most, that sounds impressive. The reality however, is that the first 2 years I was lucky if I worked on one Client per month. During that time, there was no way I could have considered myself proficient or a master level lash artist. If I did, that would have been false advertising. It wasn’t until I’d started doing eyelash extensions more often that I could make claims of being a master with complete confidence.
Having years of experience coupled with tons of practice hours is what makes an artist great… not the amount of time they’ve had their certification.
On that note, some artists with less experience feel they need to charge less until they gain more experience applying eyelash extensions. A new artist may charge $50-70 for a set of lashes because that’s what they believe they’re worth right now. On the other end of the spectrum, an artist with 5-10 years of experience may charge quadruple that amount because they know they’ve put in the time mastering their craft and have invested more money in furthering their education.
Your lashes are a small thing that can dramatically change your appearance and how you feel about yourself. Don’t gamble on your lashes choosing the wrong artist. Make sure you ask questions so you can have your lashes styled by the best.
