An eyelash perm involves using a cylindrical rod and perming solution to semi-permanently curl your natural lashes.
The curl in your lashes will last anywhere from six weeks to eights weeks, depending on the life cycle of your lashes (it’s normally 60-120 days). As your lashes grow and fall out, the effect will gradually become less noticeable. The treatment itself will take about 45 minutes to an hour. It’s the perfect low maintenance treatment because you won’t need to do anything after the perm.

Who are Eyelash Perms suited to?
If you want your lashes to be more curled than what you can get with a lash lift but aren’t a fan of eyelash extensions, then an eyelash perm is definitely for you. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a low maintenance lash enhancement. The curl will last 6-8 weeks. It’s also good if you’re going on a holiday and want a low key way to enhance your eyes. It goes really well with a tint for extra darkness, because your lashes will look longer and more defined.
Contraindications for an Eyelash Perm
We would love to help you have stunning curled lashes, but there are certain circumstances where we may not be able to go ahead with the treatment. These are known as contraindications, where the treatment’s negative effects could outweigh the benefits.
We can’t proceed with an Eyelash Perm treatment if:
- You’ve recently had your eyelashes permed. We usually recommend waiting at least 8 weeks. You probably can’t live without curly lashes but having another Eyelash Perm too soon runs the risk of damaging your natural lashes, and we don’t want that to happen. Sometimes exceptions can be made if you had your lashes permed elsewhere but the lashes didn’t perm properly. In this case you can do a ‘remedial eyelash perm’ sooner. We’ll have to assess them first and let you know of course.
- You’re pregnant.
- You’ve had a previous allergic reaction to an Eyelash Perm Treatment. Keep in mind, you could do eyelash extensions instead as an alternative because the materials used are different.
- You’ve had laser eye surgery in the previous six weeks. Within this period, your eye(s) are still in the healing process so the treatment may severely irritate your eye.
- Your eyes are inflamed, have a stye or are infected. Your eye area needs to be completely healthy for any treatments to be safely applied.
- You are on hormonal medication such as Roaccutane or thyroid medication. These types of medications make it hard to predict how effective the result will be, so we won’t be able to guarantee it. If you still want to go ahead with it, it is possible to proceed, you just need to be aware that there is a chance the eyelash perm might not be as long lasting as usual.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. We’d be happy to help you with any concerns you might have.

FAQs
What’s the difference between an eyelash perm and a lash lift?
Lash Perm
The lash perm is best suited to women with long eyelashes or women with wide or open eyes.
This treatment makes the lashes semi-permanently curled for weeks. This is achieved by wrapping the lashes around a cylindrical rod and adding perming solutions to curl the lashes.
This creates beautiful lash curls but often the clients feel that their lashes appear short as this doesn’t lift the lash.
The Lash Lift
While perming the lash actually curls the lashes, the lash lift works differently by lifting the lashes up from the base.
Whereas both methods use the same chemical solutions to perm the lashes, the lash lift uses more of a curved fan shaped device, rather than a cylindrical rod.
The lift takes the same amount of time as a perm, but should last slightly longer. Your lashes will generally not be as curled with a lash lift compared to a lash perm.
What is an Eyelash Perm?
An Eyelash Perm involves using a cylindrical rod and perming solution to semi-permanently curl the lashes to create beautiful curls that lasts for six to eight weeks.
What are the differences between Eyelash Perm and Lash Lift?
Eyelash Perms have been around since the 80’s but recently people call it Lash Lift. Even though people use the word Lash Lift instead of Eyelash Perm, the result of an Eyelash Perm and Lash Lift are completely different.
With Eyelash Perms, your lashes will curl up, this is because we use a cylindrical rod and perming solution. With Lash Lift on the other hand, the lashes are lifted from the root. Silicone pads are used to achieve the lifting effect.
Eyelash Perms are great for long natural lashes while Lash Lifts are more suited to shorter lashes.
How long do Eyelash Perms lasts?
Usually, Eyelash Perms last about six to eight weeks. The time depends on how well you look after them and your lash growth cycle.
Will an Eyelash Perm ruin my lashes?
No, it won’t. The perming solution we use is specifically designed to use for eyelashes and it’s very gentle.
At Blink Lashes, we recommend booking in an Eyelash Perm every six to eight weeks to maintain a healthy, fabulous lash look.
I’m pregnant, can I get an Eyelash Perm?
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding it’s always best to speak with a doctor beforehand. Pregnancy has been known to affect the growth rate and texture of hair/eyelashes, so pregnant clients may experience less perm than usual.
